Fewer of your customers scroll through ten blue links anymore. More of them open ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google's new AI overview, ask a full question - “recommend me a good accountant near me” - and act on the single answer they get back. So here is the question worth sitting with: when that answer appears, is your business in it? Most of your competitors have not thought to ask.
Search just changed shape
For twenty years, being found online meant one thing: rank on Google's first page and hope people click. You optimised for keywords, and the reward was a list of links the customer had to sort through alone. That habit is fading fast. People have realised they can skip the sorting entirely - ask a real question, in plain words, and get a direct recommendation back.
This matters because the AI usually names only a handful of businesses, sometimes just one. There is no page two to fall back on. You are either in the answer or you are invisible - and the customer never even sees that you were left out.
So what is GEO, exactly?
GEO stands for Generative Engine Optimization. Classic SEO helps you rank for keywords in a list of links. GEO helps you get mentioned inside the answer an AI writes when someone asks it a question. It is a related craft, but a different one.
The mental shift is simple: SEO chases keywords, GEO answers questions. An AI is not simply matching the phrase “accountant near me” - it reads the whole question, works out what the person actually wants, and assembles a reply from sources it trusts. Your job is to become one of those trusted sources.
How does an AI decide who to recommend?
No one can buy their way in, and there is no secret trick. But the pattern is becoming clear. AI assistants favour businesses whose websites answer real questions directly and in plain language - the way a person would actually ask them. They lean on structured data and FAQ markup, which lays out your services, your location and your answers in a format a machine reads cleanly.
They also trust businesses described consistently across the web - the same name, the same services, the same story wherever they appear. It helps enormously to hand them a machine-readable summary of your business: a small file called llms.txt that tells an AI who you are and what you do in plain terms. And none of it works if the page is slow or messy. A bot has to read your full text quickly, or it moves on.
Why Bulgarian businesses have a rare head start
Here is the part worth acting on. Almost no one in the Bulgarian market is doing this yet. While your competitors still argue about keywords, the door to AI answers is wide open - and the businesses that walk through it now will be the default recommendation tomorrow.
First-mover advantage is real, and it does not last. Being early is cheap. Catching up later, once the AI has already learned to name someone else, is slow and expensive. A small business that gets clear and structured today can out-appear far bigger names in the answers customers actually see.
Where do you start?
Start with the real questions your customers ask - in their words, not yours - and answer each one clearly on your website. Add FAQ structured data so machines can read those answers. Keep your business described the same way everywhere it appears online. And make sure your pages are fast and clean enough for a bot to read all the way through.
This is exactly the work we build into every CENDRAVIK project. We add an llms.txt summary so AI assistants understand your business at a glance, mark up your pages with FAQ structured data, let the AI crawlers in, and serve clean static snapshots so a bot reads your full text instead of a blank, half-loaded page. It is quiet, technical work - and one of the smartest, cheapest things a small business can do right now.
The way people find businesses is being rewritten right now, and the ones who move first will own the answers for years. If you would like to see where your business stands today - and what it would take to show up when someone asks an AI - we are glad to look at it together.
